What this site is for

Most fishing information online is either a forum thread, a product page, or an article that exists to sell something. fishing.info is meant to be the page you land on when you want the actual answer: what a fish is, where it lives, when it bites, what to throw, and what the regulations say, with the sources listed so you can check. If an article here is not the best answer to its question on the internet, it is not finished.

Who is behind it

Jeroen Leidelmeijer is the author of record for every article. He is an angler and the founder of Vangstlog, a catch-logging platform he designed and built (in Dutch; an English version may follow). He lives in the Netherlands, which is exactly why this site is built the way it is: it does not rest on one person's local experience. It rests on research.

How every article is made

1. Research first. Each topic starts with the primary sources: state fish and wildlife agencies, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, university fisheries departments, record-keeping bodies such as the IGFA, manufacturer specifications, and published studies where they exist. Angler consensus from forums and reviews is used for practice and is labelled as such.
2. Something you cannot get elsewhere. Every article carries at least one original element: a comparison table with real numbers, a decision table by conditions, a rig diagram, a records list with sources.
3. Drafted with AI assistance, checked by rules. Articles are drafted with the help of AI from the research above, then pass an automated review that checks the sources are listed, the original element is present, the facts trace to a source, and no sentence claims an experience we do not have.
4. Read by a human, corrected in public. Jeroen reads a sample of articles every week. Mistakes get fixed and the fix is dated on the page.

What we will never claim

We do not claim to have field-tested gear we have not held, or to have caught fish we have not caught. Where an article recommends products, the recommendation comes from specifications and an analysis of owner reviews, and it says so. If we ever earn a commission from a link, the page tells you.
